Description
Technoburlesque is a silent comedy of the body that parodies the rigidity of social roles. It uncritically appropriates, copies, and pastes femininity, masculinity, family relationships, machismo, and other perverted social roles that are wrongly considered normative. In various formats, the collective The Feminalz develops Technoburlesque Image Snatchers, with members of the collective, in different situations and moments, creatively engaging either in research of (pop) artistic forms, strolling through entertainment and critique, satire and tragedy, music and dance, feminism and strip-pleasure, speaking about sources of inspiration, or sharing knowledge and dilemmas they have encountered during their work. All of this with the aim that, in the end, short stage interventions may (or may not) emerge.
“What is already contained in the presence of the performer, even when they are not performing a specific action on stage?”
Alongside the personal “container” (of references, preferences, etc.), we will juxtapose the question of music and sound. We will also not forget the question of “queer-framing the dominant,” artistic strategies of appropriation, recycling, and intertextuality, which give queer images their inherently multilayered meanings—a lecture on a brief history and the subversive potential of (contemporary) queer cultural practices. All of this with the aim of arriving at new subversive procedures on stage.
Biography
The regular, modular, surprising, never-the-same, and above all artistic-social evenings Image Snatchers were established in various collaborative formats by collaborators of the collective The Feminalz. At its core is a permanent group of performers: Maja Delak, Luka Prinčič, Nataša Živković, Loup Abramovici, Daniel Petković, and Lana Zdravković, joined in recent years by Jan Rozman, Leon Marič, Metod Zupan, and Ena Kurtalić, as well as guests from SMG: Anja Novak, Blaž Šef, Lina Akif, and Ivan Peternelj. Under the auspices of the Emanat Institute, more than 120 different pieces and over 100 performances have been created over twelve years of existence, with performers ensuring an entirely new experience at each iteration through successful strategies of appropriation and recycling.
