About
The collective of transgender entities The Feminalz began their collaboration in 2013 with the technoburlesque Image Snatchers, which continues to fill theatres, persistently and uniquely. Over time, the collective has branched out into music production and the performance series Image Snatchers Present, in which they dive deep into one of their characters. After Matilda and Her Buns (2017) and The Lives and Deaths of H.P.D. (2019), it's now time for Mad Jakale, who the Image Snatchers present in a film we haven’t seen yet. The performance is steeped in the starting points and interests of the title character and encompasses everything from drag kinging, musical theatre, show dancing and contemporary dance. The performance therefore flirts with technoburlesque – an invention of the collective that presents current social commentary and artistic incursions through a series of comic, drag and dance numbers. At the same time, however, the matter of technoburlesque is treated much more flexibly, with scenes being fluidly extended or glued together on a deeper level. Throughout the ninety minutes, the common threads of affects, intensities and images commonly associated with masculinity are spun. Don't expect from the technoburlesque Image Snatchers Present: Mad Jakale in a Film We Haven’t Seen any artistic forms that are external to the Feminalz, nor a search for its internal imperatives, but do expect a unique experience of a stage methodology we haven’t seen before.
We can be sad and cry about the fall, or we can morbidly dwell on the fact that the world is killing us because it contradicts ecofeminist principles of environmentalism, does not aspire to an egalitarian society and pacifism and mysticism. We can continue to fight for more attention and show more and more strength, or we can talk openly about our privileges. We can put on a performance and have fun doing it. Sure, if you like to have fun and we like to entertain, we can have fun together. And if you enjoy seeing us enjoy, we can enjoy ourselves together. And when we imagine that, we can quickly see that it's entirely possible.
