On my dance class we try to be faster than usual, jump higher, spin longer and dance while being turned upside-down. Training consists of tasks that I have developed during many years of sports, dance and teaching practice through the synthesis of contemporary dance techniques and somatic practices (Klein, Alexander, Feldenkreis, Release, ...) and based on the knowledge of world-class gymnastics.
Levels of prior knowledge of the participants may differ.
Biography
Leja Jurišić by exceeding everyday understanding of liminal physicality almost effortless and naturally overtakes different positions of radical performative expression, while at the same time moving within the confines of dance, performance art and political art. She redirects observer’s attention from physicality as such to dividing line of body in motion, nonstillness (text) and to, what we could call, body between restlessness (context). Leja Jurišić understands the human body as forceful emancipatory mechanism for creating resistance experiences – both for the dancer/dancers and the audience. Leja Jurišić is (last) Yugoslav state champion in sports gymnastics and law graduate. Her work has been presented in many theatres and festivals around Europe, USA and Mexico. As a dancer she collaborated with choreographers and directors, such as Tim Etchells, Janez Janša in Meg Stuart.
