About

Choreographer Andreja Rauch Podrzavnik has been active on the scene for already 15 years. What are the recurrent themes and modes of working in her creative work and what has changed since she began her work? In what ways have the methods (of working and choreographing itself) evolved and been adapted in view of new interests, life circumstances, and the changing working conditions? Can the repeated undermining of already developed methodologies also have positive effects on artistic work and on the ways we make sense of it? Going through certain work materials, photos, and other archival fragments, we will discuss these issues, have a drink, and perhaps even try out a thing or two.

Biographies

Andreja Rauch Podrzavnik is a choreographer and pedagogue and this year's recipient of the Ksenija Hribar Award in the category choreographer.
She has been involved in numerous solo and collective projects. She is the co-founder of Federacija Institute, founded in 2009, and the member of Federacija Collective. She has collaborated with musicians, designers, actors, vocalists, and dancers in her projects. Her more recent projects include different groups of people (elderly, children, blind and partially sighted), with whom she works beforehand.
She understands dance as a mode of behaviour, finding in this the potentials offered by movement and dance in different contexts. Close collaborations with musicians and composers add up to her basic interest in composition, which she also understands as a meeting point of different media. In her work, dance as an aesthetic phenomenon is not taken for granted; rather the contrary, she is continually working towards the constitution of reasons for it.
Andreja also studied at the London Contemporary Dance School, where she obtained her MA in 2009.
Her performance Weavers has been awarded by the expert jury at the 2007 Gibanica (Moving Cake) Festival of Slovene Dance; in 2004 she received the River Man Award for her piece Chestnut Brown; in 2003 she was named outstanding dancer in the critic’s choice of the magazine Dance Europe.
As member of Federacija Collective, she was the co-recipient of the 2014 Meta Vidmar Plaque (for her work with youth).

Publicist, critic, and theoretician Pia Brezavšček has graduated from philosophy and art history, passed the professional exam from pedagogy, and is now self-employed in culture. Covering the fields of contemporary dance, theatre, and other contemporary art practices, she has worked for Radio Student Ljubljana, the daily newspaper Večer, magazines Maska, Dialogi, Ekran, and Kino!. In 2013, she was the co-selector of the Gibanica (Moving Cake) Festival of Slovene Dance. Also in 2013, she was the recipient of the Ksenija Hribar Award for criticism. Currently, she is involved in dramaturgical projects.
