ABOUT WORKSHOP

Choreographer/theatermaker Nicole Beutler will work with the participants on basic principles that surround her current work and research: the physicalisation and embodiment of the voice, the translation of movement qualities into qualities of speech, the idea of text as physical material. She proposes a work on text and texture as literal and metaphorical principles for movement (of thought and body). Essential in her work is also the idea that the solo exists only from within a group-condition and a reference to musical composition tactics.

BIOGRAPHY

Nicole Beutler (Munich, 1969) is a choreographer, curator and performer. She has been living and working in Amsterdam since 1993. She studied Fine Arts at Münster and München arts academies, German Literature at the University of Münster and Dance and Choreography at the SNDO at the Theatre School, Amsterdam. Her work is situated on the threshold of dance, performance and visual arts. She seeks to precisely articulate sense and experience, through performances, installations and books. Her performances are composed musically, and suffused with subtle humour. They are characterised by minimal stage sets and a focus on the performer as a human being. In all her work, she examines the function of dance in the context of performance and theatre.
