On her debut album released by Kamizdat, Raketa presents herself in an intimate and dark manner, within a melancholic, dub-inspired aesthetic. This soundscape leaves room for all kinds of emotional states, particularly those that are not exactly beautiful, cheerful or pleasant. The intensity of the experience lives in the variously concealed positions of the voice, organic textures and odd, anxious atmospheres, after which each subsequent track moves us with an increasingly distinct personal touch. Whilst listening, it is almost impossible to tear one’s attention away from the music, as with every bizarre and dark twist it draws you into its rich tapestry. The journey through the album is also a journey through Raketa’s discovery of her own self and her place in the world, and her search for her own voice – a journey that can only coalesce into a mature whole when she embraces even the darkest parts of her personality as her own.
The album was recorded a year after the music for the performance piece Wetware, which provided the inspiration and drive for this project.
To accompany the album, the artist, in collaboration with album designer, has created a booklet featuring lyrics and visual materials, which will be available at the album launch & here: raketa.bandcamp.com/merch/sence-album-booklet
