‘What happens when a drag king, a stripper and a stand-up comedian stride into the Mladinsko Theatre?’ ‘The Ninth Small Arts Platform.’
The small arts are not ‘small’ because they lack scope. They are ‘small’ because they grow outside the major systems: without established repertoires, media exposure or well-trodden paths. Cabaret, queer burlesque, stand-up, contemporary circus and their many variations, from near and far, remain a space for taking risks and direct contact with the audience. At the Small Arts Platform, we are bringing them together on the same stage for the ninth time. Why? Because they know how to turn anger into humour, and the joy of performance into a form of resistance. Because they know how to look the status quo straight in the eye and, if necessary, laugh right in its face.
